Empathy does not protect her from self-doubt and reluctance to give herself fully to someone romantically. This makes it easier to interact with the spectral raven that was possibly my favorite character in the book. She’s a super giving person and very spiritually in tune. Life hasn’t crushed her, but it certainly hasn’t been entirely good to her over the years, beginning with growing up in a commune with a woman who loved her but was not her mother. Lynn is, as my grandmother would have said, a hippie. When given a reason and a choice she gives of herself fully, which becomes a healing balm for all the characters involved, both living and spectral. Life has tried to crush Raven from the very beginning, and even though she has become terribly guarded and tends to lash out when pushed, she is at heart an amazingly loving person. Pros And My Favourite PartsĮvermore is the second in a series but stands alone very well. The empathic Lynn can hardly see beyond the walls Raven has built around her emotions, but she comes to care for what she sees.
